Out of Bounds is a journey of discovery on the coordinate plane. Players draw cards with unique instructions—like plotting absolute coordinates to (3,4), moving relatively 'East 4 spaces,' or even rotating '180 degrees.' The mission is to skillfully navigate your game piece off the board! When one player goes 'Out of Bounds,' their adventure is complete, but the learning and fun continue for everyone else. It's self-paced, engaging, and perfect for the classroom. There is even an 'EASY' option for younger students with limited movements and only the top-right quadrant.

How to Play: A Quick Guide

Start the Game – Standalone version

Click the SpellABCD icon on your desktop, then choose "Out of Bounds game – standalone version."

Pick Players

Select the names of everyone who is playing.

Choose a Level

Select the ‘easy’ or ‘hard’ difficulty.

Begin

Click the Start Game button.

Take Your Turn

When your name is announced, Pick a Card. When the button turns green, it's your turn. Click it!

Make Your Move

A card will show your next position on the grid. Move your mouse to that spot and click that coordinate to place your piece.

Helpful Hints

When a player's piece goes out of bounds, their turn in the game is over.

The game is over when all players have gone out of bounds. Play again to improve your skills!

Start the Game – Internet version (beta)

First, open the game by clicking the SpellABCD icon and choosing "Out of Bounds game – internet version (beta)." Click Connect to get online, then click Set Username and enter the name you'd like to use.

Set Up the Game (Choose a Host)

** One person needs to be the Host to create the game.

For the Host:

Click Create OOB Game.
Choose the 'easy' or 'hard' difficulty level.
A Game ID will appear. Share this ID with all the other players.
Once everyone has joined, click Start Game to begin!

For all the Other Players:

Get the Game ID from the Host.
Enter the ID into the box and click Join Game.
You'll wait in the game lobby until the Host starts the game.

How to Play Your Turn

Take Your Turn: When your name is announced and the Pick a Card button turns green, it's your move. Click it!
Make Your Move: A card will show your next spot on the grid. Move your mouse to that coordinate and click to place your piece.

Helpful Hints

- Each player needs their own Windows-based computer with an internet connection.
- The game board on your screen will update automatically to show everyone's moves.
- If you leave the game (AFK) for 45 seconds, your turn will be skipped.
- You get 6 missed turns and then you are out of the game. So don't leave the game!

A player's turn in the game is over when their piece goes out of bounds. Have a wonderful time playing together!
